VoIP & Cloud Telephony

VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is a cloud-hosted telephone system that routes your voice calls over the internet rather than traditional copper lines. It can be used via physical desk handsets, or via softphone applications running on desktop computers and smartphones.

VoIP unlocks massive business agility, including bundled free minutes to slash calling costs, the flexibility for staff to work from anywhere, and rapid disaster recovery tools to reroute calls instantly if your office loses power or connectivity.

Yes, action is required soon. Openreach is officially decommissioning the legacy UK Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) lines. To prevent sudden blackouts and protect your business continuity, all traditional lines must be migrated to modern IP or VoIP systems before the final network shutdown.

No. You keep full ownership of your numbers. Barton Telecom handles the entire technical number porting process in the background, ensuring zero disruption or downtime for your incoming customer calls.

It is significantly better. Most modern systems utilize HD handsets that deliver crystal-clear, high-definition audio. If call quality ever fluctuates, it is usually tied to poor local broadband or internal router configurations, which our team can easily optimise.

Business Mobiles

Corporate mobile plans are structured specifically for business operations. They provide significantly better value through pooled data or shared allowances, streamlined central billing and flexible contract terms that let you scale connections easily under one master account.

There is no single “best” network; it depends entirely on your regional coverage, travel requirements, and data usage. Because we partner directly with EE, O2, Vodafone, and Three, we run independent coverage checks to recommend the exact carrier that will perform best for your specific location.

Business Broadband & SIP Trunking

Business broadband is a high-capacity, always-on internet connection optimised to transfer heavy data loads, power cloud software and route secure business communications globally.

FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet) runs fast fibre optic cabling to the green street cabinet, but relies on older copper wiring to finish the connection into your building. FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) bypasses copper entirely, running pure fibre optics directly into your office for significantly higher speeds and superior reliability.

Bandwidth is the maximum volume of data your connection can transfer in a given timeframe. Having sufficient bandwidth is vital for cloud telephony, if your office line lacks capacity, your VoIP calls will experience dropouts and crackling.

A leased line is a premium, private fibre data line installed directly into your premises that is not shared with any other businesses. It features symmetrical speeds (matching download and upload rates) and comes with strict Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for near-instant fault response times.

A SIP Trunk is a virtual telephone line that connects your existing on-site physical PBX telephone system to the internet. Unlike old physical ISDN cables, SIP trunks run virtually over your broadband connection, offering immense scalability without needing physical line installations.

VoIP is the broad umbrella term for sending voice calls over the internet. A SIP Trunk is a specific technology used to connect an older, physical office phone system to the internet so it can make those VoIP calls.

Data Cabling & Networking

Data cabling (or structured cabling) is the physical copper or fibre optic highway hidden in your office walls and floors. It provides a standardised, secure and interference-free way to hardwire your PCs, VoIP phones, printers and wireless access points directly to your main network switch.

Cat5e supports standard speeds up to 1 Gbps and is suitable for basic office tasks. Cat6 is built with tighter insulation to handle speeds up to 10 Gbps for heavy data transfer. Cat6a offers premium shielding to maintain those 10 Gbps speeds over much longer cable distances while entirely eliminating network crosstalk.

WiFi provides excellent flexibility for laptops and mobile devices, but wireless signals can be sporadic and suffer from structural “black spots”. A physical, hardwired Ethernet cable means that your desk PCs and VoIP phones receive 100% of your available broadband speed with zero wireless interference.
